So this post mark the first post of Guide to Healthy skin by me! And of course to start our skincare, first step first is cleansing.
There'll be 2 posts regarding cleansing as 1 will be too long because cleansing is one of the most important step in skincare (but this post wont be as long as the 2nd haha!). And to muslims, this cleansing part is super important too as if you wudhu' without properly cleansing your face, takut air wudhu' tak tembus ke kulit sebab layer makeup yang masih melekat kat skin korang.
Because believe it or not, a good cleansing routine can really make or break our skin because it could enhance the skin to absorb the skincare products or it can make your skin condition worst no matter how great your skincare product is.
Yep, fact.
|| WHY DO YOU NEED TO CLEANSE YOUR SKIN PROPERLY
Okay think of it like this :You went out on a walk, a bird poop on your shirt.
So what you gonna do afterwards? Do you clean your shirt improperly, or do you clean it properly until the stains are gone?
The same goes to our face! Our skin trapped a lot of oils and dirts an entire day and keeping them on your skin without properly cleansing them off will only give you new friends called breakouts and acnes!
So, here are the reasons on why you should cleanse your face properly:
1. To get rid of oils, dirts and other unwanted stuffs from our skin
2. To prep for the next skincare steps
3. To avoid acnes and other breakouts caused by dirts that's left on our skin
Cleansing- if not done properly, would also block your pores and make your skincare less effective because it can't absorbed well to your skin. And if done too much, it'll stripp off the moisture of your skin and might destroy skin barrier.
But to do it right, you must first determine your skin types.
(insert gambar skin types)
For example, :
your skin is dry but you use cleanser for oily skin (strip off extra oils) instead of dry skin (cleansing while moisturizes your skin), and as a result, your skin becomes much and much dryer and flakey.
|| HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TYPE
The easiest way to determine your skin type is using a patch test. Here's how:🌊 Wash your face with cleanser, pat dry and do not apply any skincare or makeup.
🌊 Wait for 2 hours
🌊 After 2 hours, put blotting over your face including forehead, under eyes & cheeks, on your nose and chin.
🌊 Based on these blotting papers, you can know your skin types. Which are....
🌊 DRY : All blotting paper won't be oily. There'll be just a little dots of oil on every paper but it's really little.
🌊 OILY : The blotting papers are drenched
🌊 COMBINATION : Blotting papers on T-zone is oily, and the rest of the face is normal
🌊 NORMAL : The blotting papers will still consists of oil, but it won't soak the papers and the oils at all area is uniform- not too much but not too little
🌊 SENSITIVE : Well, this one's tricky. But usually, sensitive skin will turns red and itchy if not moisturized and if it's been in contact with certain harsh ingredients. Usually, if your skin is sensitive, it's dry. But there are also oily skin that are sensitive!
|| PROPER CLEANSING
And here are tips for proper cleansing :1st tip : Never Ever Sleep with make up on!
This is the most common mistake made by almost everyone! don't lie saying you have never done this.
Lagi-lagi bila you're super tired from the day activity, bila Nampak katil kau terus cam "ala 5 minit je lelap". And, boom! good morning! hahah.
Reason on why you should NEVER sleep with your make up on is that our skin trapped a lot of sewat, oil, dirts, dust, bacteria and basically everything that's in the air all day long, Sure enough, the pore has been blocked by the makeups you apply, and the bad stuffs left on your skin will react to each other and form acne.
2nd tip: Choose gentle cleansers
Gentle cleansers means different thing for different skin types. This means that gentle cleansers could still be harsh if used on the wrong skin types! So that's why it's important to know your skin types first.
For Dry and sensitive skin,
☁ Stay away from cleansers that contains fragrance and overwhelming scent
☁ Use milky cleansers and gel cleansers - they might not produce foam but these types of cleansers are best for dry and sensitive skin
☁ Avoid foam cleansers because they're too stripping especially for dry skin
For Oily skin,
☁ Oily skin is completely different from dry skin
☁ Foaming cleansers are better for oily skin as they break away extra sebum
☁ Please make sure you cleanse properly so that the pores aren't clogged (Clogged pores lead to breakouts!)
☁ Find cleansers with Salicylic Acid as it's recommended for oily skin type.
3rd tip : How Often Should you wash your face?
Okay so here's the thing that get me to writ this post.
I saw a new account on Instagram that sells skincare product, and they also give tips for skincare. And I assume the owner of this account just post anything that "looks" like a tip to attract new followers. It said that, we have to wash our face at least 3 times a day. WHAT??? (**silently cursing hahah!)
Okay, the correct way to cleanse your face it, MAXIMUM 3 TIMES A DAY, maksimum tau; bukan sekurang-kurangnya. Unless wudhu', you can wudhu' many times per day if you want to because it doesn't require any cleanser and it'll give you extra pahala #DoneDakwah. hehe
But generally, you just need to wash your face only 2 times per day which are morning and evening.
4th Tip : Morning and Evening cleansing how-to
Morning Cleansing
☁ Use basic cleanser, as we just need to wash our face from the unwanted dirts, bacteria and excess oil produces by our skin while we're sleeping.
☁ DO NOT double cleanse in the morning!
☁ For oily skin type, if your skin is too oily, you can wash your face 2 times with the same cleanser, using half the amount of cleanser you use at night each time you wash your face. so portion cleanser tu sebenarnya sama je dengan kalau korang basuh sekali, tapi instead of buat sekali, korang buat 2 kali. oily skin sahaja tau!
☁ Don't skip morning cleansing of your skin is oily type.
☁ For dry skin- You can skip using cleanser in the morning and just use toner with cotton pad to clean your face. As for me, I use half or 1/3 the amount of cleanser I use on the evening, because I feel the need to wash my face haha.
Evening Cleansing
☁ Doesn't matter what type of skin you have, NEVER SKIP EVENING CLEANSING. even when you come home late, or when you're out traveling.
☁ If you wear makeup and sunscreen, please double cleanse.
☁ Don't just rely on makeup wipes without using facial cleanser
☁ If not done right- night skincare routine such as your sleeping mask, serum, etc won't be as effective as it's supposed to be too.
|| DOUBLE CLEANSING
Double cleansing is actually just cleansing your face for 2 times, using the different cleanser. You can also use the same cleanser for 2 times, depending on your cleanser types. Of course, if you ask me, I don't recommend you to use the same cleanser for double cleansing because not all cleansers are capable of removing makeups and sunscreen properly- even used for several times. My skin is dry so I use Physiogel, which does not form any bubble. If you're using the same kind of facial cleanser like me, forget using the same cleanser for 2 times to double cleanse as this is a really gentle cleanser that can't and won't remove waterproof makeup haha!
Double cleansing is a very important step, especially if you are wearing makeup and sunscreen, as the first cleanser is used to remove all the oils and waterproof makeups and sunscreen, while the second one cleanse your face from the excess sebum from the first wash.
Using oil-based cleanser for the first step is really recommended since they are the best tools to remove all the makeups on your face. Oil-based cleanser include cleansing oil and cleansing balm. But if you don't have those, you can use makeup remover or micellar water, but make sure all the makeups are properly removed.
So here's how to double cleanse :
❅ on your dry face, apply cleansing oil or cleansing balm
❅ massage your face so the oils are combined with the makeups and removed from your face
❅ rinse with warm water
❅ use your daily cleanser as usual
❅ rinse your face, and pat dry
❅ proceed with your skincare routine
And I already wrote a review on Zero cleansing balm which you can use as the first step in double cleansing, you can refer HERE for more.
That's it for the first post! I'll insert the link HERE for the next post when it's ready.
Till then,
Thank you for reading this entry!hani shubie
