BEAUTY OF JOSEON GINSENG ESSENCE WATER REVIEW

June 30, 2023

Assalamualaikum, korang!

Ngl, I get my hands on Beauty of Joseon (BOJ) toner due to the hype that this brand receives (this makcik is trynna join the hype haha!). And for your information, BOJ is a Korean brand, but it focuses on international market instead of local market - which is why a lot of Koreans don't know about it.

And if you don't know already, I have dry skin and I need toners and essence the most. This is actually one of the first BOJ product that I tried, and I tried this before I get my hands on their cleansing balm (click to read my review). I figured I would like to try it for a few months before posting any review about it, which is why you see me posting about the cleansing balm first hehe.

||     BEAUTY OF JOSEON GINSENG WATER

As the name suggests, this essence toner uses ginseng as the key ingredient and some people does not react good to it like snail mucin, so please make sure to do some patch test before applying it to your whole face.

BOJ Ginseng Essence Water is a type of essence and if you don't know how essence is like, just remember the famous brand SKII essence. So, this is not just a toner and its main function is to hydrate and nourish your skin. Fun fact - dehydrated skin is more than just dry skin, people with oily skin tend to have dehydrated skin too as only the surface of the skin is oily but dry on the inside. Here is what the essence claims to do:

||     THE INGREDIENTS

Panax Ginseng Root Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Propanediol, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Water, Hydroxyacetophenone, Glyceryl Glucoside, Xanthna Gum, Panthenol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Allantoin, Adenosine, Panax Ginseng Callus Culture Extract, Theobroma Cacao(Cocoa) Extract, Dextrin, Glucose, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Panax Ginseng Berry Extract, Lactobacillus/Panax Ginseng Root Ferment Filtrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ethylhexyglycerin, Disodium EDTA

The key ingredients highlighted is 80% ginseng root water, and ginseng complex, plus, it contains niacinamide too. BOJ used panax ginseng that is grown in Bonghwa Korea, although no info on the age of the ginseng used. I see some reviews talking about the age of ginseng in skincare but I am not particular about the age of ginseng used and personally, as long as no animal ingredients used, safe for my skin, and it works, I'm good.

||     PACKAGING

The essence is in a chic frosted plastic bottle and comes in two sizes - 40ml and 150ml. I honestly love that BOJ is giving us the option to buy the smaller bottle as I really need to try it out first before investing in a huge bottle that I don't know whether will suit my skin or not. It's also perfect for travelling and can be refilled!

The label in my opinion, really represents BOJ. It is simple and seems antique like the name of the brand itself, and it's minimal. It doesn't come with a flip cap, sadly, but I think it fits the ancient vibe f the brand and the cap is secure. The bottle itself is quite tough plus its plastic, so there's no need to worry about it being broke.

It comes with a twist cap and it's quite solid, tbh. Though I prefer flip cap, I think this kind of packaging is more suitable with the image so I have no complain.

||     TEXTURE AND HOW TO USE

Watery texture, not sticky but can be a little heavy on skin on a hot day. I'm very particular with heaviness of a skincare product and for me, if i'm going to spend a day outside, or on very hot night (no a/c), I'd avoid applying this. But on other days, i love using it.

There are 4 ways to use it:
1. As toner - wet a cotton pad and wipe your face with it.
2. As cleansing water - mix the essence in clean water at 9:1 ratio (9 parts water & 1 part essence), and use it after cleansing. Refreshing!
3. Moisturizing essence - put some product on your hands and dab it on your skin (same like toner btw)
4. Moisturizing mist - Put it in mist container and spray it to your face

||     MY REVIEW

Disclaimer : I use my own money to purchase this product and the review is what I think of this essence, and I am not paid for this post.

Pros:
🌱   Nice packaging
🌱   Subtle scent, fade over time
🌱   Not sticky
🌱   VERY moisturizing
🌱   Multiple use
🌱   Reasonable price especially for a ginseng essence
🌱   Totally recommend it if you're travelling to a winter country

Cons:
🌾   Might feel a little heavy on a very sunny and hot day

Will I repurchase this?
Already did, but I have other toner as substitute for hot days

Will I reccommend this to my friends?
For dry skin - yes.

Where to grab?
Price: RM71.90 for 150ml, RM23.90 for mini 40ml
Compare your prices before buying and i got mine from BOJ Official Shopee and Marshear Beauty

That's all, thank you for reading!
