BENTON ALOE BHA TONER | REVIEW

April 8, 2019

Assalamualaikum and ola!

Okay putting acid on the skin is not necessarily bad as it was like in the dramas. like the one when your enemy (lol) hire some bad guys to splash acid on your face thing so you become ugly. Drama sangat haha!

The key is to know what type of acid you put on your skin, how many of it to put on your skin, how many times should you apply it and how to use it.

Actually I've been delaying to post this since forever! I tried to take pictures of this Benton toner but I just move in with my husband and my photoshoot props are all left at my kampung tsk tsk.

Okay back to the post.

||     AHA AND BHA ACID

And as what I read from SkinstoreUS website :

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) are acids derived from natural substances such as sugar cane, milk, and grapes. They work by melting the intercellular glue that holds our skin cells together, to help the skin’s natural shedding process. AHA’s are made up of tiny molecules of water loving and water soluble acids. AHAs are preferred for sun-damaged and dry skin because they exfoliate the skin’s surface and have the added benefit of also improving moisture content. A main point of difference is that they don’t penetrate as deep as BHA and the effects are felt on the surface of the skin. AHA’s are great to rejuvenate aging skin.

On the other hand, Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) is an oil loving acid. BHA is preferred for oily, acne-prone skin and for treating blackheads and whiteheads. BHA can get through the oil that clogs pores and helps to normalize the lining of the pore that contributes to acne. BHA’s have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. BHA’s are sometimes preferred for those struggling with rosacea. However, not everyone with rosacea can tolerate an exfoliant – it’s best to experiment with a BHA product to see how your rosacea responds. It is likely you’ll see less redness and a smoother, even skin with fewer breakouts.

Which I can summarize as
AHA - for dry and sun-damaged skin, improving moisture content
BHA - For oily and acne-prone skin, for treating whiteheads and blackheads, penetrate deeper into the skin

I've tried AHA/BHA toner from Cosrx and it was amazing but I do love Benton BHA toner better. To those who read my previous skincare posts, you guys know that I have a really dry skin. yep, This toner, even though it's BHA, which is suitable and better for oily and acne skin, it works really well for my dry skin! (Probably because of the snail mucus and Aloe!)

||     BENTON ALOE BHA TONER

I first bought this toner as it was on sale at Althea, but I found out that Hermo sell this exact toner for a cheaper price even it was not on sale hahah!

First Impressions
This toner is thicker than Nature Republic Aloe Vera / The body Shop Aloe Vera toner. When I use those 2 toners, I always put them in a spray bottle and just spray to my face. But since this is thicker, there's no need to do so. It doesn't have any obvious smell and it's clear too.

Packaging
The packaging is simple but it provides you with all the information you need. I really love the pump as the toner is thick (don't need to spray anymore~), and it pumps out an adequate amount for me to use. Like, not too much but not too little.

Also, the bottle is made up of plastic so I don't have to worry about it falls down and break like glass hahah. The plastic is also lightweight, and it looks like a pharmacy / medical product too, except the bottle which is green in color.

Experience
This is actually my third bottle of this product. I buy new toner when I finish the second bottle and turned out my skin became terribly dry after that and I switched back to this and my skin turned back to normal now!

My skin is not an acne-prone skin, not the active acne I mean. You know the acne that's really small and not popping like the normal acne? yup, the one that never seems to be going away we called it Jerawat Pasir. I suffer from that and when I change to another toner, that kinds of acne came back. But this toner my friend, it keeps away those acne too.Well, it does take time to heal those kinds of pimple but at least with this, no new ones are popping out on my skin!

How to use
Just put it on your cleansed, dry skin! Okay, honestly, pat dry your skin before using this toner otherwise it's like, rubbing shower foam on your skin hahah.

I use it at least twice daily, in the morning and at night. Whenever I remove my toner for wudhu', I usually just put n sunscreen and whatever moisturizer / toner I have at the office. depends on what sample I got from purchases. haha!

||     MY REVIEW

Pros:
♫ Improves skin barrier
♫ Relieve itchiness caused by dry skin
♫ Slightly thicker than water
♫ Extremely light scent
♫ Fights acne well
♫ Price is really affordable
♫ Love the pump
♫ Alcohol free, and doesn't sting the skin

Cons
♫ since it's a BHA product (exfoliating), it is recommended for you guys to wear sunscreen outside. I don't mind with this as I literally can't live without sunscreen!

Will I re-purchase?

100% yes, and already my third bottle

Will I recommend this to my friends?
Yes, especially those with acne-prone skin.

Till then,

    1. BHA already exfoliate your skin, chemically. If you mean by physical exfoliate (e.g: scrub), you can do it once a week but it's not necessary because BHA already does the work. :)

  6. The pros of the toner are higher compared to the cons. So, I think it's good to give it a try. But, currently, I am using Valmont vital falls toner and it is so good on my skin.
